Getting The Words Out

I’m currently gobbling up three books on Writing. Highlighters are strewn on the coffee table and kitchen counters. A while ago I gave you a link to rookiemag.com and an article titled Getting Unstuck.

Here’s another article, chock full of the collected wisdom of great writers, from the fabulous Brain Pickings.

If you want to beef up your skill set, or re-ignite the flame of inspiration you’ll find what you need here.
One book I’m reading is the old reliable classic, On Writing Well by Zinsser. Now I have to combat clutter in my writing! “As If” to quote Alicia Silverstone in Clueless, as if fighting it in my closets wasn’t already a longer battle than the Thirty Years’ War.

Zinsser is gonna red ink those last two sentences.

    • He writes so clearly and plainly about the craft Levi. I picked mine up at a Used Bookstore for a few dollars. Happy hunting.

      • Actually will have it tomorrow new from Amazon. Lol. My what we can do these days. Have a great day Kelly!!

  1. I love brainpickings. This is a great reminder, Kelly, thank you. And, good for you continuing to learn and grow. We all need to do that to become unstuck in one POV. I am going to go right over to that link and read it with my coffee this morning. πŸ™‚

  2. That photo of the typewriter took me back to my high school typing class. I vividly recall the pressure of the keys on my fingertips, the, “dink-dink” of each key striking the paper, the bell and the, “k-k-k-k-k” of the arm of the carriage return.

Someone would make a mint of money making a function key on a keyboard that made those same sounds for us geezers who reminisce at those sounds! I think we’d be forever saved from writer’s block. πŸ™‚

    • Did you ever see a movie called Finding Forrester? Sean Connery plays a reclusive writer and there’s a scene where he tells his protege to ‘strike the damn keys’! The audible feedback worked like a prompt with typewriters. Silent keyboards are no help at all! So right Susan πŸ˜‰

      • I did see that movie! Great Connery vehicle. I’ll have to watch it again and look for that scene. Thanks for that! πŸ˜€

  3. Dear Kelly, Thank you for following my blog;I am deeply humbled. I pray that God will richly bless you, your family, and your ministry. In the Name of our Lord Jesus,
