Crowded Bus in Africa

You’re Either On or Off the Bus

Salvation is like this bus barreling along a dusty road in West Africa.
No matter how many passengers are already on the bus, there always seems to be room for more.

Today in the grocery store I saw about 20-25 people.
I wondered how many are on the bus to heaven.

We have a promise from Jesus that He’s coming back for us.
For those who call Him Lord and are looking forward to His return.
Of course there are the naysayers!

There have been since Peter was still writing letters to churches.
He called them scoffers.
They think all the talk of Jesus coming back is bogus.
Pie in the sky. Never gonna happen.

Yeah, that’s what Noah’s neighbors all said about his weather forecast.
Rain. Never gonna happen.

So what’s taking so long?
Over 2000 years have gone by since Jesus ascended into heaven.
There is so much evil and injustice in the world, how can God just let it go on and on?

Doesn’t He see?
Doesn’t He care?
Isn’t He ever gonna do anything about it?

Peter says He is.
He has a very good reason for the wait though.
And the good apostle explains it all for us in his second letter.

Nevertheless, do not let this one fact escape you, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.
The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.
2 Peter 3:8-9

And so we wait for Him to come back.
But wait and pray.

Open your eyes and your heart to the people who haven’t boarded the bus.
Pray for those waiting in the morning coffee line with you at Starbuck’s.
Remember the guy who rotates your tires, or mows the grass at the Park.
Remind God of the nurse who takes your blood pressure, or the lady who took your parking place at the Mall.
For your family and friends who still don’t know Jesus.
For your neighbors and co-workers.
Your doctor, your lawyer, and your plumber.

God is waiting with a purpose and a heart of love.
Share in His love for others remembering the ones who aren’t yet on the bus.
