As a Christian my morning devotions are like a visit to a repair shop.

Ken Falletti had a Small Appliance Repair Shop when I was a kid.  I’d go in with my Mom when she’d take a lamp or a toaster in to be repaired.  He had a long workbench against the back wall of the shop with all kinds of tools and wiring materials.   He could completely rewire a lamp or just put a new plug on it if that was the problem.

When I sit down with a cup of tea and pick up my Bible I invite God to make any repairs that are necessary.

I feel like I’m climbing up on that old workbench and putting myself in the hands of the one who knows how to fix me.  After all, He’s the one who made me.  It’s always a mistake to try to mold God into someone I’m more comfortable with!  But I hear people say things that show that’s exactly what they are trying to do.  They want a God of their own design.  One whose rules are better suited to their liking and current lifestyle.

But God isn’t the one on the workbench!  He’s perfect, in fact perfectly divine, just as He is.
It’s us that needs repair.
Every day.

And I am thrilled to be in the hands of a master craftsman and better yet, of the original designer.

Who better to repair a Stradivarius than Antonio Stradivari?

You turn things upside down!
Shall the potter be regarded as the clay,
that the thing made should say of its maker,
    “He did not make me”;
or the thing formed say of him who formed it,
    “He has no understanding”?
Isaiah 29:16 (ESV)

God understands us better than we understand ourselves.  All we need to do is put ourselves in His hands day by day.
He loves us enough to keep working on each of us until Christ be formed in us.
