If you missed this last year, you’ll want to listen. This work will never have the power it does in her own voice, so listen and then share as Maya Angelou performs her own poem, Phenomenal Woman!

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout.

  1. Rhonda A says:

This was fantastic, thanks for sharing.
“Caged Bird” was a phenomenal read, great writer, of course.

    • Kelly Grace says:

I’m getting reacquainted with her work and loved hearing it in her voice. I was so moved I wanted to share it 😉

  2. SimplySage says:

My favorite contemporary poet. It was wonderful hearing her. I’ve always loved to hear her read her own poetry.

  3. This was the first time I heard Maya reading it herself. I had the fortunate opportunity years ago to show an all-female college class the video of Oprah’s commencement address at Wellesely College. She reads this poem at the end to the all-female graduating class. Thanks for posting this.
