In the modern world the phrase, 'the blood of Jesus', makes people uncomfortable.

We don't wig out about the love of God, but the blood sounds barbaric. It's insulting to think that there's a need for anything as extreme as blood. What have we done that would require blood?

That 's the crux of it. Not that Christ's suffering required His blood be shed, or that the Romans were brutal and cruel and crucifiction a torturous death.

No, the part that offends us is that God thinks our sins warranted, actually required such a remedy.

I get it on a theoretical level, but my ego doesn't embrace the reality.

But what if this truth revealed something about God as well as something about man? It does.

None of us can measure our own lack of holiness, but we also can't wrap our minds around the holiness of God. So we dismiss the gulf that exists between us and wonder why there is so little experience of spiritual communion with Him. This is the problem, the breach, Christ came to repair.

It required blood that He freely offered for us. He said, 'no one takes my life from Me, I offer it up'.

That's what He did so that we could experience a genuine connection with God.

Let's not let our ego rob us of the possibility.

What can wash away my sins?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

What can make me whole again?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus
