Does your love for God sometimes seem small?
Maybe you’ve discovered as I did that we can’t generate it ourselves.
It grows out of our perception of His love in our lives.
The best way I’ve found to keep loving Jesus is to keep noticing His love in my own life.
The big and ‘small’ ways He demonstrates His love every day.
Years ago I was lost. And I knew it.
I was guilty. And I felt it.
Then God sent an Avon Lady, with little sample tubes of lipstick and a heart full of God’s love, to my front door. Four days later I sat in her home and heard how God loved me.
Heard what He did because of that love.
Heard for the first time in my life that Jesus Christ died, shedding His own blood, to purchase pardon for my sins.
Heard that He wanted to make a trade: my sins for His righteousness.
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21
During that evening God’s love reached down into my heart, into a deep well of need, and met it fully, completely, divinely.
How could I not respond?
Through the years there have been days when I haven’t noticed God’s love, when I ‘missed blessings’ by simply ignoring them.
Those ‘missed blessings’ limited my own love-response to God.
Every blessing I take for granted, each one I don’t make an effort to see and acknowledge, diminishes my response to Him.
I forget how much He loves me.
The evidence is all around me, but sometimes I’m blind to it for hours or days.
Do you want to love God more?
Then open your eyes to His love for you demonstrated every day!!!
Start writing it down.
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
1 John 4:16
Have you come to know and believe the love that God has for you?
Noticing that love is a necessary part of abiding in it.
Choose one point in your day when you’ll start paying attention
to the ways He has shown you His love.
A good night’s rest, the delicious goodness of a bowl of raspberries, or the inexplicable delight you experience when your little one offers you a flower picked from your garden.
These gifts and many others are heaped on us daily by a loving doting Father.
Let noticing blessings become a habit that leads to greater joy in your life.
