One Among So Many
Can you make a difference? Let’s examine that question.❓
Ever heard the phrase, a sea of humanity?
Thinking of it brings to mind the promise of Jesus to Peter and Andrew.
“Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19
Jesus was promising to do something life changing in two men who were already fishermen.
His plan was to change them in order to equip them to play a part in God’s big eternal purpose. They would learn, by a close daily study of Him, to be like Jesus so they could do what He had done, rescue the souls of men (and women, and kids too🙂) Jesus was going to teach them to make a difference.
Though mankind exists in massive numbers, God always sees the one among so many. So much so that even the hairs of our heads are numbered. Each person is precious to God as His own creation. He desires to redeem each and every one!🙌 With God we are each, the one among the many.✨
The Bad News and The Good News
This week it seems as if the world is headed into a dangerous conflict in the Middle East.
As Christians we know that’s inevitable.
I was in a Doctor’s office and the young woman at Reception is from Ukraine. She is concerned for family members still living there.
Twin tornado funnels in Nebraska. Continued drought in the West and flooding in the East.
We are bombarded with news—and most news is BAD NEWS.
There is an upside though.
Sometimes the BAD NEWS gives you an opportunity to share the GOOD NEWS.
After 911 churches were filled. People were open to hope in the midst of fear and uncertainty. It seemed like everyone was seeking to be rescued. And many believers stood up to be the one to make a difference for the ones feeling so lost and afraid.
The One
Remember the Starfish Story?
Spoiler Alert!!!
The punchline of the story is the boy’s comment, “I made a difference to that one.”
Jesus promised to teach us how to be fishers of men.
If you ask, He’ll give you an opportunity.
Do you know what you’d say?
Get ready, the tide’s going out and the beach is gonna be full of flopping fish 🐟
Finding Your One and Making a Difference
Years ago a young mom with four kids shared her story of feeling a little sidelined from ministry by her growing family and responsibilities. 👦👧 👦🏻👶She was homeschooling two, chasing a toddler and nursing a new baby. But as she prayed about it, the Holy Spirit brought to mind Deborah; the only woman Judge Israel ever had. What stood out to my young friend was this part of Deborah’s story:
Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, was judging Israel at that time. And she would sit under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the mountains of Ephraim. And the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. Judges 4:4-5
She ministered from home. 🏠Unlike other Judges and Prophets who travelled around to minister, God brought Israel to her. So my friend made that her prayer. She asked God to bring to her anyone He wanted her to minister to because, ‘children hobble a mother’s feet’.🙃 Deborah had been gifted with the wisdom and prudence required of a Judge of Israel. My friend had the heart of an evangelist and a comforter.❤️ If only God would bring her someone in need of what she could offer, she was eager to make a difference to that one.
She was making herself available to God in the confines of her current responsibilities. That’s essential if we, as women, are going to find our patch of eternal soil to tend. God honors that. When we keep our priorities and our passions aligned then we can leave it to God to find a way to make His will possible in our lives.🙌✨🔥
Praying to Make a Difference for One
Like millions of American moms, my friend drove a minivan. Full of boosters and a huge carseat that requires an Engineering degree to install or remove.😂That van is key to how God once again shows us that He does the supernatural in what looks like very natural ways. A neighbor had noticed the van sporting that huge carseat. Being a mom with a baby she knew that where there was a carseat like that there was probably a baby still in diapers.
She had been sick with flu, her husband was out of town on a business trip, Amazon didn’t exist except for selling books (seems so Stone Age, right😂), they had no friends or family locally because they’d just moved for hubby’s new job. In short, she was reduced to using paper towels and plastic wrap for diapers. When her baby went down for a nap she ran across the street and knocked on the door in hopes of finding an emergency source of diapers.
That was the beginning of a friendship that led to her salvation, her husband’s salvation and their ministry to their own extended families. God starts with the one, but intends ultimately to rescue the many.🙌
What’s on your heart, who is on your heart? It’s just possible that God has been working behind the scene to orchestrate a rescue and you’re part of the plan. God isn’t looking for talent, He’s looking for availability. You can make a difference! Are you up for that?
