weekend snapshots

This beautiful post made me a little homesick 😉
One of the wonderful things about being an American is the experience of Fall, Winter, Spring, & Summer! It’s a blessing of geography that those near the Equator never experience. I’m looking forward to returning home to see family and friends, to the creature comforts of hot & cold running water, reliable electricity, and to Fall. It was hot when we left home in early August and by mid-October the mornings will be crisp and cool. I can’t wait to see the Ginkgo tree adorned with bright yellow leaves that quiver in the wind, finally letting go and drifting out across the lawn and street. The two ladies who walk a Corgi in the early morning hours will be wearing sweaters and the fellow who roller-blades in the evening will wear his knit cap.
I’m looking forward to a big slice of pie from Apple Hill and maybe a drive through Napa to see the vines turning red. It’ll be time to shop for pumpkins and drink tea while I begin my Christmas list. There’ll be football on TV and folksy Family movies set in New England will flood the Hallmark channel.
I’ll come home to America and find kids walking to school and Starbucks’ stocked with Fall offerings like Anniversary Blend and Thanksgiving Blend.
In 1992 we went on a ministry trip to Russia and took our then 14 year old daughter. The trip was tough and we rationed our food and water. When we touched down in the US my daughter turned to me and said, “We live in a great country don’t we Mom, America is a great country!”
I feel that every time we come home.
God bless America,
Land that I love.
