The Question Is. . .
Drum roll pleaseš„
Wanna know the question I’m asked most often? You probably don’t care or haven’t thought of it, but just in case . . . I’m not gonna leave you in suspense. It’s about my name, Kelly Grace.
You may notice that this website is kellyjgrace.com. Not kellygrace.com. There’s a simple reason why I had to resort to using my middle initial j on everything from my blog to my podcast. Her name is Grace Kelly.š
The blond beauty came on the Hollywood scene in the early 1950’s made 5 movies in 1954. Won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1955. Met a Prince at the Cannes Film Festival that year and married him the next. Au revoir to Tinseltown and Hello to Monte Carlo. šļø And yet somehow, in the minds of a surprising number of people, her name gets confused with mine.
My Mom chose my first name, Kelly, from a magazine page featuring a model with big brown eyes and it was the Kelly Advertising Agency that created the ad. She saw the model’s eyes and mine, liked the name Kelly and that’s all the backstorythere is to my first name. The End š¬
The Grace part is what generates all the recognition, and thus the confusion. Also, I have two first names. šKelly and Grace. So you can see why people cut and paste until they get something they think they remember, Grace Kelly šā”ļøā¬
ļøāŖļøā©ļøš It’s wrong, but it sounds right to them.š„“
Usually it works in my favor. The assistant manager at Pottery Barn, for example, remembers me, not because I’m a nice person, or I placed a big order. No, she remembers Grace Kelly.š„“Of course, my order is NOT under Grace Kelly, but we finally get that sorted. Until I visit the store again in 5 months and she greets me with a warm smile and a “Hello Grace!” And we start the whole process of untangling my names once again.
I get questions like, are you related to Grace Kelly? No. Did your parents think it was a good idea to name you after a big star, were they fans? Uh, no, because it’s a married name and also it’s Kelly Grace, not Grace Kelly.
One woman asked me if I’d married my husband to get the last name. Again, no, but there’s also no denying it’s been a bonus. In fact, next to accepting Christ as my Savior, marrying Gary Grace has been the best decision of my life. ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø Getting the last name is the Ć la mode with a cherries on topš
Shakespeare said, āWhatās in a name? That which we call a rose/ By any other name would smell as sweet.ā
But I happen to love both my first and last names. Kelly is Celtic and means Warrior Woman. A fact my husband shared with me in a Gift ‘Shoppe’ in England. He came up to me with a little Bicycle License plate with Kelly on it and said, “Hey, did you know your name means Warrior Woman”? Then he turned around to put it back and muttered, “Information that might have been useful 11 years ago.”š
Let me tie up one loose end here before we turn off the presses.
So just why can’t I use kellygrace.com? I mean I’m not trying to use gracekelly.com, right? Well, it’s because someone else already owns the domain (and have since 2012 when I started this website/blog) and they wanted $35K for it. Nope, not gonna do it.š
That j saved me $35K. However there is one small problem. You can’t simply Google Kelly Grace and find me. You have to search for Kelly Grace Blogger or Kelly Grace Podcast. Or just Bookmark this blog page so you can get back here in a single click.š±ļøšš
