My husband and a ministry group climbing to a remote village in Ghana to visit pastors and churches.
Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.
Proverbs 31:23
Are you an asset to your husband in his career?
Does he benefit from your encouragement and complementary participation in his business endeavors?
Have you ever considered the ways God might want to use the strength and beauty of your marriage as an influence for good in your husband’s professional sphere?
I can think of two work environments in our culture where a spouse’s participation is almost mandatory.
The first is politics and the second is ministry.
That order is random by the way.
Here’s a list of 7 ways you might be a real asset to your husband and partner with him in his work life.
1. Invite his co-workers , manager, or boss to your home for dinner.
2. Host a Holiday event in your home; anything from dinner to an informal gathering including kids could provide a glimpse of your husband from a different perspective to those who only know him in a professional capacity.
3. Help organize an event for his Office. Maybe a civic improvement project or a fund raiser for a local charity. You handle the details and they just have to show up ‘on the day’.
4. Volunteer to provide a gift wrap station in the Office for a day or two near Christmas to help clueless men and over-stressed women.
5. Help your husband remember his secretary or assistant’s birthday with a card and appropriate gift. Of course, you’re going to have to run point on this if your husband isn’t good at gift purchases ~ or remembering dates.
6. Ask yourself if there’s anything you could be doing to help your husband be better prepared physically and mentally for whatever the day might hold. Preparing breakfast, a clean & pressed wardrobe, a lunch, can all help reduce morning hassles and just getting out the door on time.
7. You might not have any way to affect what happens between 9-5, but you have an influence over what one article I read called Launch and Re-entry. Launch is how you interact in the morning before he leaves for work and Re-entry describes the first few minutes after he returns home in the evening. Make these times count by parting and greeting with a kiss, some eye contact, and a genuine question about his day.
Do any of these seem like they might apply in your situation?
Beyond prayer and a sympathetic ear, how do you try to contribute to your husband’s success?
This verse can seem out of context in this passage that relates predominately to our Proverbs 31 woman’s life, but her husband’s life is central to her own. I think it’s here to prompt us to think about ways we can be a help meet to him in his life outside the home.
