Are You Building The Life You Really Want?

SofAWhatYouDoEveryDay

I’ve had this little saying on a post-it note hanging on the bottom of my iMac for about 6 months.

It’s a little reminder that life is about the everyday.

A Wedding Day is a big event day, but creating a strong marriage is about what we contribute everyday.

The day you have a baby is a big day, but it takes everyday after the big day to raise that boy or girl to be a person of good character.

We all know that daily exercise makes us healthier, but we struggle to make it a priority everyday.

We each built the life we currently have, one day at a time.

The good and the not so good stuff of our lives didn’t happen to us on some random Tuesday.
We built it over time.

I’m not talking about the sudden events like loss of a loved one, our home being destroyed in a tornado, or a tragic accident that leaves us disabled.
Those things, when they come challenge our faith and force us to rely on the character reserves we’ve got at that very moment.

For years I took as my own a little quote from a friend.
She said, “I have great intentions, but I’m a little stinky on the follow through.”

It was funny and endearing, but in practice it’s Life Dynamite!
BOOM, it blows up my face and I end up with little corners of my life covered in the debris of neglect and carelessness.
I say, “This is not the life I wanted!!!”

No, but it’s the life I built.
Everyday I worked on crafting my life as it is right now.

I don’t want to be ‘stinky on the follow through’ anymore.
But I know I need God’s help to change old habits.

This spoke to me today.

Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. You can count on this. Take it to heart. This is why we’ve thrown ourselves into this venture so totally. We’re banking on the living God, Savior of all men and women, especially believers.
1 Timothy 4:9 (The Message)

A disciplined life in God.
I know He cares about every part of our lives.
Our marriages, kids, work, friends, even finances.

The single biggest thing we can do to have the lives we really want is to spend time with God everyday.
Putting ourselves into His loving hands and asking Him to teach us how to build our lives.

The life God wants to help us build, that’s the life we all really want.
