All the big kids are gone. They hadda go back to school. I hate school days cuz there’s nobody to play with. There’s four of us and I”m the littlest one. This year Charlene goed to school. Now I have to wait all day for somebody to play with.
When Momma comes to the store I can’t make the merry-go-round go. I’m to little. And when she comes out the store Momma says we gotta hurry home for the groceries get hot. It’s still hot like summertime, but it’s no fun like summertime.
I ask Momma why can’t we come to the store after the big kids get home? She says, “Dallas you know Audell and Bobbie gots homework and Charlene needs a lie down before supper or she be too cranky to eat”.
Big people don’t play.
When I get big I’m gonna still play.
When I get big I’m gonna have a merry-go-round and swings.
In the summertime we can swing on the swings at the school.
But now I can’t play at the school cuz all the kids and teachers are there.
All the swings and the bars just sittin’ there all day on the playground.
There’s only a little bit of recess for all the kids to use ’em.
I could be there swingin’ when they go inside.
I knows how to swing all by myself.
Bobbie teached me how to pump my legs and lean way back to go higher.
How come summertime is so short and schooltime so long?
