Christmas and God’s Gift of Eternal Life for You

The Real Meaning of Christmas

The real meaning of Christmas is the now ever present possibility of experiencing eternal life, of being born again. But for so many people the Season will pass by and a New Year begin and they will still be without the gift God intended they receive. These people all share one thing in common, a life they have right now, but one with no promise of eternity.

It’s coming on Christmas, they’re cutting down trees. 🌲 So begins Joni Mitchell’s opening line of her classic song, River. Tis the Season for trees, shopping and celebrations. That’s the modern western world’s way of celebrating what is really the most critical Milestone in human history, the birth of Jesus Christ.

What does Christmas mean to you? Describe what feelings and imaginations it stirs to life? A nostalgia for your childhood and possibly a simpler time. Memories of family traditions, midnight services and everyone gathered together for sumptuous fare and elaborate gift giving. Vacation from school or work and in America, Football on TV.

Christmas is the Season to Believe and Receive

I’ve heard many Christmas Sermons over my decades as a Christian, but I love the simplicity of the message Linus shares in answer to Charlie Brown’s question, “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?”

Let’s not overcomplicate this. Christmas is the celebration of God’s gift to us of a Savior. The Bible says He gave us a Savior, His only begotten Son, because He loved us. He wanted us to have friendship with Him and that meant that first our sins must be forgiven. Jesus came to purchase that forgiveness for us. He was the gift and He gave a gift. It is really just that simple.

Please Open Your Christmas Gift of Eternal Life

This Christmas I’m 71 years old and I know I’m closer, much closer, to the end of this life than the beginning. But, I have such absolute peace about the future unknown because it really isn’t unknown to me. I know I will live forever with God in a place Jesus said He went to prepare for me. He promised to come again and take me to be with Him there forever and ever. I recently heard it described as a place where everything sad becomes untrue.

Revelation 22 gives us a glimpse into Heaven. This is the culmination of what began in that Bethlehem manger ages ago. This is what Christ accomplished for us, the gift of eternal life.

Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations.

No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever.

Then the angel said to me, “Everything you have heard and seen is trustworthy and true. The Lord God, who inspires his prophets, has sent his angel to tell his servants what will happen soon.”

“Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book.”

Don’t Wait To Open!

You can open God’s gift to you right now! The most well known verse in the Bible is probably John 3:16 and it contains all the truth you need to believe in order to receive eternal life through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is Immanuel, God with us. God come in human form to offer Himself as the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world. (John 1:29) Won’t you believe? Won’t you receive?

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

Your Christmas gift is an Invitation to Eternal Life.
Don’t wait to open it. Grab it up and pull it close to your heart and begin to enjoy an eternity of friendship with God. Find peace with Him, joy in His Spirit, love among His people and the meaning and purpose for your life that’s been hidden until now. Then you’ll know the meaning of Christmas and experience what the angel’s promised, Peace on earth and good will toward men. 🙌

“He, at this very moment, issues invitations by the millions. He whispers through the kindness of a grandparent, shouts through the tempest of a tsunami. Through the funeral he cautions, “Life is fragile.” Through a sickness he reminds, “Days are numbered.” God may speak through nature or nurture, majesty or mishap. But through all and to all he invites: “Come, enjoy me forever.”
