The future of generative AI is bright, and I’m excited to see what it will bring.

If you wanna get up to speed on my AI journey, here’s the first post I wrote about AI and Christians.

A Retraction of Sorts 🙂
It’s the season for Flip-flopping so I’m jumping on board and changing my mind about AI and Christians. I need to tell you about my metamorphosis because I had previously declared that I would not be using in any of my content. Well, things are changing in that department. Let me explain why and try to bring you into my decision making on this oh so current issue.
A Good Comparison to AI
I’ll begin with a question. What if you discovered that I had hired a writing or copy coach to help me improve the quality and readability of blog posts or podcast scripts? What would you think of that? I hope you’d think that I cared enough about you, the content consumer, to try and improve my writing. Your experience is important to me. AI is a powerful tool for improving the reader’s experience. And because I write about Biblical truth that can potentially change people’s lives, I want my writing to facilitate that process not hinder it. That’s why when a business coach shared a Masterclass on AI I decided to give it another look. Maybe a closer look would help me to see if my writing could be more clear, concise and even empathetic in service to the reader.
I told you in the first post that I was impressed with the answers ChatGPT gave me when I asked it questions about spiritual growth and Christian parenting. The content it delivered was all Biblically sound and well organized. It included good references and had a logical flow. AI was delivering value. But, I was still skeptical and decided that I’d stick with the same yellow tablet and pen tech I’d been using for 50 years. Years of prepping for Retreats, Conferences and Bible Studies with just me, the Holy Spirit and my Bible. Somewhere in those years I added a computer. But my initial ideas seem to spill out more readily onto yellow paper than onto the white screen. It’s that blinking cursor that stymies me.🥴
My Own Personal Writing Coach
Once I learned how to use ChatGPT more effectively I was kinda stunned at the improvements it suggested in my writing. They were outstanding! AI could be my writing coach. I ran an old blog post through it and saw how much better it flowed. And it highlighted the places where I’d asked the reader to jump to a new thought without any transition. Or I signed off without making the application clear or offering more links on a topic. There was NO ICING on the cake I’d served.🥴 ChatGPT showed me how much more delicious I could make that cake with some frosting and sprinkles.
Setting The Record Straight
Just to be clear, I’m now using AI in the form of ChatGPT to improve my own writing. I can already see where my weak areas are. Isn’t that exactly what a good Writing Coach would do? I frequently run ahead of the reader leading them down one path only to veer off onto another without warning. Or cut to the chase and suck the emotion out of the story. Another no-no is presuming the reader will know how to take the principles and work them into their daily life without clarification or inspiration from me. My whole thing is helping believers connect the eternal truth they believe to the daily life they lead. I can do better and AI can help me improve.
What Isn’t Changing
My promise to you is that I will always aim to be led by the Holy Spirit in what I write or podcast about. Striving continually to be Biblically sound and clear about the application of God’s word to real life. This Scripture has been a Guidepost for me,
The Lord God has given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary; He wakens me morning by morning, He wakens my ear to hear as the learned.
Isaiah 50:4Okay friends, that’s my reasoning behind my flip-flop on AI. If your work includes writing I’d urge you to take AI out for a spin and see if it can help you write better, faster or with more impact.
