It's one big job made up of a million little ones. You've got this!

It's the secret sauce for your Christian life.

Christians don’t need artificial intelligence simply because we have access to something far superior, Divine Intelligence. AI is all the rage right now. My Inbox is flooded with emails from both Christian and non-Christian sources urging me to tap in to this incredible resource for Content Creation. They promise it will save me hours. It will greatly improve the content I share on this blog, on my Podcast and even Social Media. I think not!

I’m making you a promise right here, right now. What you read on this website, what you hear on Divine Connections Podcast and what you see on any of my Social Media channels is birthed in prayer, anchored in God’s word and produced by me, not by AI.

Jasper.ai and Chat GPT have been on my radar for months or even possibly a year now. I took both out for a spin to see how the platforms worked. I even put Chat GPT through its paces by asking simple questions like ‘How do I pray to God?’ or ‘What challenges do Christian parents face in raising godly children?’.
The answers were solid and Biblically based.

The Problem With Artificial Intelligence

So isn’t it a good thing if the answers were correct? Before you can answer that you have to ask,
BUT, how did I know the answers it gave me were good ones? I only knew it because I’ve spent over 50+ years studying the word of God. I’ve listened to the best Bible teachers of the last 100 years as well as read widely from the great acknowledged fathers of the faith like Augustine and Fenelon.I’ve done my homework. I’ve walked with Jesus and done what Scripture exhorted me to do,

Study to show yourself approved, a workman of God who doesn’t need to be ashamed, rightly (accurately and appropriately) handling the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

Christians don’t need Artificial Intelligence! We have access to Real Truth, to Divine Wisdom and to the Holy Spirit who lives in us and has promised to lead us into all the truth (John 16:13). 🔥🔥🔥Yet, we each have a part to play in that process. We aren’t the audience, we are the students. Let’s not forget that.

No Shortcuts

There are no shortcuts to spiritual growth. No get wise quick method. There is no software for growing your relationship with the true and living God. You and I must follow the same path trod by every saint who has gone before us. Abraham, David and Mary. All the prophets and Apostles. Your favorite Bible story characters. They all had an initial interaction with God and said yes to His kind invitation to a friendship. Then they discovered, some almost immediately, others over time, what part God had planned for them in His great purposes. There are no shortcuts to spiritual maturity outside of a committed walk with Jesus.

What Is Divine Intelligence?

What is Divine Intelligence and how is it so superior to Artificial Intelligence?

The Bible refers to God as, the only wise God several times. That’s not to say there are unwise or foolish Gods. It’s an antiquated way of saying God alone meets the criteria for wisdom, for being designated as wise. You know the Scriptures declare God is omniscient, or all-knowing. There is nothing that God does not know. Yet, that word wise, goes beyond knowing. It’s meaning defines one that skilled, or expert. It also means one who is capable of forming the best plans and using the best means for their execution. And that my friend perfectly describes our God. As Christians we don’t need Artificial Intelligence because God has offered to share His Divine Intelligence with us.🙂

Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Psalm 147:5

Wisdom Shouts In the Streets

I love the picture in Proverbs 8 of Wisdom standing at the top of a high place in a town and crying out to the people to listen up and learn prudence and noble things. Do you want instruction, insight, knowledge, and discretion? Wisdom promises to deliver them all to you along with the good fruit these will yield in your life. Or how about Psalm 119? An entire Psalm devoted to the immeasurable value of God’s word to man. Here are verses 97-105:

Oh, how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies;
For they are ever with me.
I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation.
I understand more than the ancients,
Because I keep Your precepts.
I have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your word.
I have not departed from Your judgments,
For You Yourself have taught me.
How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Through Your precepts I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way.

Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.

Psalm 119:97-105

Divine Intelligence is Always Available

From Genesis to Revelation, God has offered to share His wisdom, Divine Intelligence, freely and generously with any who care to discover it. If we’re lacking wisdom we have a specific invitation in James 1:5 to ask for it and a promise that God will give it. What are we waiting for? Wanna know more than your teachers? Would you like to be wiser than your enemies? Artificial Intelligence won’t offer you that. But God offers Christians something infinitely better than Artificial Intelligence. He offers us His very own Divine Intelligence. Do you want that? Could you use that in your life right now? YES!!! Yes, you could.

Is There a Danger From AI

I’ve been thinking and praying about this and here’s where I’ve landed on this question. There is a potential danger, but not for those who know and love the truth. As a believer I know God protects my mind from corruption as I am cleansed by the word and as I exercise discretion about what I expose myself to. Garbage in, garbage out, right? That’s the spiritual law of sowing and reaping. You can’t take in untruth and false information constantly and not start absorbing it. So don’t go down that path. You have agency with this. And you have a responsibility to not buy into the world’s input. (See Psalm 1).

For non-believers I think the danger is real and possibly part of what we see in prophesy about the future of events as the world spins into full rebellion against God. Look at 2 Thessalonians 2 which discusses the ‘Man of Lawlessness’ who will come to power and deceive the whole world. Have you ever asked yourself, how could that even happen? What would that look like? Well, one little verse (v. 11) in that chapter says this, “Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false.”

Artificial Intelligence Can Be Rocket Fuel For Lies

False information is amplified by AI on a scale that was unimaginable without it. AI is rocket fuel for lies. Once again, return to that verse in 2 Thessalonians and look at verse 12 which follows the one I quoted above, “in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” Once again it all comes back to a matter of the heart and the choices people make to embrace truth or reject it. Those who refuse the truth and have pleasure in unrighteousness are incredibly vulnerable to lies.

Pew Research has a comprehensive article discussing the wide array of applications for AI and the possible dangers it poses as it continues to spread without regulations or restrictions on its use.

The Case Against Man

In Romans, the Apostle Paul, makes God’s case against man. He lays out why God’s wrath will ultimately come upon mankind. And it all begins with an active suppression of the truth. Even the basic truth of Genesis 1:1 and Psalm 19 that God exists and is the Creator of all things. In this long section from Romans 1 Paul repeats the phrase, ‘Therefore, God gave them up to. . .’ Ultimately people make a choice about truth. That choice determines their relationship with God. They can enter, by faith, into salvation. Or, they can refuse and suppress the truth, deny God as Creator and Christ as Redeemer, and suffer the consequences of the wrath of God and eternal damnation.

Divine Wisdom and Divine Justice

Let me share a long passage from Paul’s epistle to the Romans in order to underscore the importance of how we each choose to deal with truth.

As you read this section of Scripture make note of what God has done to make truth available and then how those who reject the truth are characterized. What are they like? How do they respond to God’s generous offer of truth? What are the consequences for them? Trace the progressive decline in their thinking and how it then is reflected in their actions.

This is Romans 1:18-32

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

Christians don’t need Artificial Intelligence if it leads to exchanging the truth of God for a lie (v. 23). You might think that’s not a real danger, but let me remind you that AI is still in its infancy. Who knows how mankind will choose to utilize it. One thing is certain. The word of God, Divine Intelligence, offers us eternal life, peace with God and a bright and glorious hope of heaven. Now let’s end on a high note!

A Benediction

You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
2 Peter 3:17-18

Your security and blessing is found in your continuing fellowship with Jesus and your constant reliance on God’s truth. You have nothing to fear if you abide in Him and His word. You can expect His blessings, rely on His protection and hope in all His promises.

Last Thoughts

I realize I’m probably in the minority, even among Christians, with my decision to not use AI. I once heard a Pastor describe preaching as ‘Truth through Personality’. That can be said of blogging or podcasting or even Social Media posts. They can reach the high standard of truth even though they flow through the personality of the content creator. So, I try to take the truth I know, truth that has shaped me and poured life into me for over 50 years, and share it with you to encourage, challenge and hopefully inspire you to walk more closely with Jesus.

I don’t need AI for that. What I need is the leading and guidance, the inspiration and prompting of the Holy Spirit. And guess what? That’s what you need for your own life too. You need that fresh filling of the Holy Spirit to empower you to live with God and for God. My prayer today is for both of us to ‘be being filled with the Spirit’ (Ephesians 5:18)
