My Archive Page How-To Hack

Archives

What Google wants Google usually gets. Enter the Archive Page. Have you ever visited an Archive Page? I’m betting the answer is no. I hadn’t until an SEO site told me I needed to up the word count on my Archive Page. I didn’t even know I had an Archive Page. Google knows though and they weren’t thrilled with it. They wanted more words. Greedy Google!!! They’re all about long archived web pages.

The Archive Page and Google

That was just the beginning of my archive web page woes. Once I found my Archive Page I realized I had no idea how to use it. Or more accurately, how to make it so that readers could use it. I’ve now been blogging off and on for over 10 years. There are 370+ blog posts on my website. It’s like a closet I’ve been adding clothes to for 10 years while never attempting to organize them. Where to start? How to KonMari my web page archives so you can find what you’re searching for?

My Strategery 🙂

I set out to beat Google at their own game. I decided to write a blog post on my Archive Page.
Not, on the topic of my Archive Page, but actually on my Archive Page.
I added keywords and an image with alt text included. I used H2 headings and some bold type. I threw in internal and external links just for good measure and kept tweaking the title until the Headline Analyzer gave me a ‘thumbs up”. You’ll find it through the link below. Now it’s in my archived web pages for sure.

It was incredibly fun and I hope you’ll read it and enjoy it. Feel free to share it a bunch and let’s push it to Page 1 of Google 🙂
With all that said, let me remind you that I blog predominately for Christian women. So this is a real departure and was initially just an experiment to see if Google was happy once I added more words to the Archive Page. If you’re a Christian woman looking for Scriptural truth and inspiration let me tell you how you can find it on my website. But first, I had to find a workaround.

The Workaround

Libraries have The Dewey Decimal System. Books have a Table of Contents and some even have an Index in the back. Websites have Navigation menus. You’ve used them even if you didn’t know that’s what they’re called.

My Archive Page Workaround starts with the Top Navigation menu on my Homepage. It has 5 clickable options: HOME, ABOUT, PODCAST, BLOG and CONTACT. If you’re looking for a blog post you’ll click on BLOG. That opens the drop down menu of Categories. Marie Kondo is already so proud of me!

I write about three topics, Faith, Marriage and Parenting and I have a Podcast which requires Show Notes.
Show Notes work best as blog posts so they get a category of their own under the BLOG. If you want to read something about Marriage then you can just select that topic and any blog post I’ve put under the category Marriage will be found there. I shared the most read blog post of all on the Archive Page. It happens to be about marriage. ❤️❤️❤️

My workaround is that simple. No coding required from me. Thank You Jesus! No FTP or php or any other webby coder-type acronyms. It’s sleek and stylish like the perfect LBD. And it’s all right there at the top of the Homepage. I know Christian women are busy and I wanted you to be able to find anything you’re looking for in just a few clicks 🙂

My Favorite Things

A day like today, when I’m poking around my website reminds me of some of my favorite things that are there. The first is a cool Timeline that you’ll find at the end of my ABOUT page. It captures my journey with Jesus from the beginning over 50 years ago up to the Pandemic. It’s good for a laugh. 😂

My second favorite thing is the little pink Screamer Banner at the top that takes you to a link for an ebook I created. It’s called How To Have That Hard Talk With Your Man and you can click on the little shopping basket to buy it for $7.00 through SamCart. There’s a money back guarantee, so what have you got to lose? If you’ve got a recurring conflict with your hubby then you should buy it and follow the plan I help you create to finally move from conflict to deeper connection.

If you’d like to listen to the podcast it’s on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and more.
