God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform. He plants his footsteps in the sea, and rides upon the storm.
William Cowper
I’m both calmed and excited by the sea.
It’s rhythms are soothing, yet everything I see evokes a response.
Both the sites and the sounds feed my soul.

Last week we took a drive up and down the west coast from Newport Oregon to Eureka California.
You asked us what the sea makes us feel.
You wanted to know what was most interesting about the sea.
I looked back at the more than 1000 photos I took to see if they could answer your questions for me.
I like the atmosphere near the sea.
Sunny days are brighter and filled with reflection.
Colors are more vibrant and I love the salty smell and the sounds of gulls and seals.
But foggy days are mesmerizing.
They’re mysterious and vaporous.
Here’s a series of Sand Art shots from the same stretch of beach.
Some are just patterns in the sand and the others feature sea grass artistically arranged by the retreating tide.
The sea gives us a path to follow, and a place to play, and some of the funkiest business names and logos you’ll ever see.
The sea means love and life, art and recreation, and the majestic beauty we are sometimes fortunate to witness late in the afternoon beholding the Pacific.
