Post title is a quote from legendary Green Bay Packers’ coach, Vince Lombardi.

Tomorrow, you promise yourself, things will be different, yet, tomorrow is too often a repetition of today. And you disappoint yourself again and again.

I have a deadline looming.

The first week of August we leave for 9 weeks in Africa.

Bible studies to finish.
Crafts for teaching children the gospel that need to be made.

Packing, prescriptions, and eye surgery too.

About 45 days from now I’ll leave, ready or not.

Here’s the thing.
Everything I’ll need in those 9 weeks is easier to get here than once I’m there.

Once there I won’t have much time for study or preparation.
The ministry and travel consume almost all of our time.

So I’ve hit on a new strategy for preparation.

Chase 1 rabbit at a time.
Begin and complete 1 task at a time.

Tomorrow I start with a cup of coffee and a huge sheet of butcher paper.
Everything I know needs to be done gets put in a box and then I start working on 1 box at a time.

In the old movie, The American President, Michael J. Fox plays a young political advisor to the President. While trying to secure enough congressional votes, an older political analyst says, “We gotta do one thing at a time.” And Fox replies, “We don’t have time to do one thing at a time.”

There’s a seductive lie in that thought.

It would be great to cross off a couple of things at once, right?
Put a BIG RED X through a few of my boxes on that butcher paper.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might
Ecclesiastes 9:10

That’s advice from Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived.

Scientists now believe that trying to multi-task hinders our productivity by distracting us , breaking our concentration and focus, and causing us stress and confusion over both tasks. Every interruption is the actual time lost from constructive progress and the time it takes to regain concentration, picking up where you left off.

Want to get more done?
Here’s a helpful article I found on the subject.
I really like #3: Single-task both work and rest.

Want to help me prepare for the ministry in Africa?
Ask God to give me wisdom and understanding concerning what to make and what to take.
And for diligence to do the necessary work.

These children are on our hearts for this trip.

  1. Are daughter Kelly was in Rawanda last October Kelly. No pun intended. So thankful for folks that have a desire to go and help those that need it. They are usually amazingly strong and courageous folks weather they think they are or not. I suppose the most important thing we could take them is a body soul and spirit that is filled up with the spirit of God.Then God will be a super natural presence in their life’s through us. I also shared that with my daughter when she asked me what to take. For more than anything these folks need the gospel that only the spirit off the Lord can bring. You see they like alot of folks are in bondage. Both soul and spirit. The material things. Well I am sure as wise as your are you will know exactly what those mothers ,daughters and small girls and boys will need. I will pray for your ministries and your mission trip that God will be with you and go before you. Many blessings to you both.

  2. Carol says:

Hi Kelly. When Steve was involved in the decommissioning of Ranch Seco they had a saying that went like this–“how do you eat an elephant? Response–“one bite at a time!” Carol

  3. Kelly, God has granted you much wisdom already. May He give you the guidance and understanding on what to take and prepare for in your ministry. I’ve added you to my list. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

  4. Now that’s strategic planning at the highest level!

  5. Thanks Levi ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Thanks for that Tom. We have a wonderful group of over 1500 men and women who have studied through the whole Bible and are throughout West Africa ministering in churches. This time I am making little Wordless books for sharing the gospel with children. Each is made of 5 different colors of felt and for each color you share a Bible verse. I’ll be teaching others how to use the Wordless Book. The real change I’d like to see is a focus on children. Most village churches do nothing to teach children. I understand that. Life is extremely difficult and as my Mom would say, “It’s all they can do to gather enough to keep body and soul together.”
But these children are growing up with Christian mothers and a few have Christian fathers, but they never receive any good teaching themselves at a child’s level. Many drift away from faith.

I loved your post about Joe & Mary. Carolyn sounds like a gem!

  7. She is a keeper Kelly. Thank you for the kind comment. We taught children in Sunday school for many years. Most are adults with children of their own today. Sunday school and being taught that there was a God who loved me and had a plan for my life gave me great hope in the years after. I always said there are two times you can really teach folks. When they are young and when they are old. I believe God is and will continue to do a mighty work in Africa and around the world. Those that go make a difference. I know all of you will reach many while you are there.Kelly my daughter is working with teenage boys that cannot cope or live at home most of them have been given up on.She has a mighty testimony.Someday I will share some of it. I am always excited about mission trips. I just know the wordless books will plant many seeds. God speed you both.

  8. Thanks Tom ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. Kelly,

God bless you – I’ll be praying for you my dear!

  10. In the past A-list celebrities like Courtney Cox, Jennifer Anniston, Eva Longoria, Andi Mc –
Dowell, Liz Hurley and even Katherine Hepburn have all had their images and persona associated with an international skin care brand – with
big bucks in advertising it. This means your purse should match
your briefcase if you need to use both of them
on the same occasion. Finding the very best, proper and
fairly as well as measurement prom dress may possibly appear
    like a daunting job.
